Salsa - Instructor

Alana, born and raised in The Bay Area, Alana began competing in sports such as soccer, track and field, volleyball and coed baseball since the age of 8 and began her dance training in the art of Hawaiian Dance (Hula) from ages 6-13. At the age of 14, she joined the Advanced Dance Team under the direction of Taylor White, and began training in Hip hop, Jazz and Contemporary for 4 years. This team was also trained for a semester and had a show choreographed each year by Gigi Torres. With this team, they performed locally at many different events, showcases and games.

After sustaining an injury and losing her chance to play soccer at the college level, Alana found and joined a club called Salsa Libre from 2015-2017. Under the direction of Erica Reyna and Javier Campines, she began her training in Salsa On1 and Bachata Sensual. With Salsa Libre, she was a member of the Board of Directors for the club and was a part of the Competition team who won both The College Salsa Open and The Next Generation Congress in 2017. Another team that she joined was Latin Rhapsody, a Latin-Hip Hop fusion dance company that was under the direction of Ruben Ochoa and Cesar Gueretty where she continued her hip hop training and was trained in bachata fusion, salsa on 2 and west coast swing from 2015-2017.

After finding a love and passion for Latin Dance, Alana was a member of Javier and Erica’s company, Clave y Tumbao from 2016 to 2019 for their Competition Salsa and Bachata teams and Erica’s ladies styling team. With this company she traveled and competed internationally to congresses and events and eventually earned multiple World Champion Titles in Salsa and Bachata Teams and Pro-Am Categories. At the end of 2018, she began training with Eder Avila, focusing on On2 Fusion which encompasses New York Style, Mambo and Afro Cuban Fusion. Since January 2018 she has assisted Erica Reyna with her ladies and coed teams (Salsa 1 & 2, Bachata 1 & 2 and Coed).

Alana has a B.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Applied Fitness from California State University of Northridge (CSUN) and has over 4 years of experience teaching group fitness classes. She has taught for CSUN’s Student Recreation Center and the Mid Valley YMCA. Alana is AFAA Primary Group Exercise certified and teaches Bootcamp/HIIT, Jillian Micheals BodyShred, Zumba, Strong by Zumba, Barre Above/Barre Fusion, TriggerPoint and Beginner Jazz and Hip-hop classes for youth.
