2020 Collegiate Latin Dance Championships

Welcome to the second annual College Latin Dance Championships.

 

Our mission: The College Latin Dance Championships is dedicated to improving the level of college Salsa competitions in California by sharing the beauty and passion of Latin dance with dancers and fans across the state.  Empowering the diverse community of dancers through setting a new standard in dance. This competition is being hosted by the world renowned studio Soho Dance LA, the innovative company that has changed the way Latin dance is being taught and produced.

On behalf of SoHo Dance LA, you and your team have been formally invited to the 2020 Collegiate Latin Dance Championships. Although we kicked off our event last year, this event will be the first annual weekend event that we conduct, and we want all members of our ever-growing community to become a part of it. In addition, we are proud to announce that we will be adding Bachata to our line up. Below you will find rules, regulations, and requirements attached for your convenience. Event Passes

$50 - Performer passes (Any students Competing and Performing)  

$75 - General admission full weekend pass.

$20 - Competition fee per competitor, per category.

$10 - Evening pass (one night no workshops). 

 

We will also be having workshops; times will be posted on our Facebook event page. There will be enough time for your performers to change, the shows will take place after the competition. After the competition, you will be able to see your scores along with the judges notes and feedback.

If your team is interested in participating in our competition and/or performing at our event, we need your confirmation by April 1st, 2020.

We need the following from your competition team:

  • Roster

  • Copy of school ID 

  • Unofficial Transcript

  • Music (MP3 file) **

Bachata Team Competition Rules:

  1. Bachata teams must register and identify all coaches/choreographers and assistant/coaches choreographers with event administrators.

  2. 3 couples made up of a follow and lead are required to qualify as a competing team, minimum. A maximum of six couples are allowed.

  3. Teams must be made up of currently enrolled students. 

  4. The routine must be a minimum 1:30 maximum length of 2:30. The routine must be 90% recognizable bachata.

  5. Rhythm must stay consistent throughout the entire routine.

  6. There are three lifts/tricks maximum allowed during the routine. The competition recognizes lifts/tricks to be any assisted move when both feet leave the ground and any part of the body is above the shoulders.

  7. Coaches and team choreographers that have an association with any competing teams are not allowed to judge current competition.

  8. Professional judges will score the teams on the following:

    1. Timing - 40%

    2. Difficulty - 15%

    3. Synchronization - 10%

    4. Technique - 10%

    5. Choreography - 10%

    6. Musicality - 10%

    7. Appearance - 5%

  9. All monetary prizes will be given in cash, the day of the competition unless otherwise agreed upon.

  10. All decisions are final.
