Salsa/Bachata Instructor

Eder Avila, born and raised in Trujillo, Peru, has been dancing since the age of 20. Inspired by Mike Figueroa’s salsa lessons in Santa Ana College, he has come quite far in his Latin dance career. Eder started his training with Melomanos directed by Pepe Gonzalez and Los Rumberos Dance Company directed by one of the original pioneers of the LA salsa style, Francisco Vasquez. From there, he danced with Alma Latina Dance Company and trained directly under World Champions Sergio Jasso and Gaby Equiz, where he was part of the team that won the 1st Annual Steven’s Steakhouse Team Salsa Competition. After a short break from dancing on teams, Eder joined Los Anormales directed by the world-renowned couple Rodrigo Cortazar and Selene Tovar, where he had the privilege to train directly under their tutelage and perform alongside them in many congresses nationwide. Eder went on to compete at LA’s Top Male Pro Salsa Dancer Competition in 2014 where he placed 2nd overall, and in 2016, was given the opportunity to take part in Charlie “Mr. Candela” Garcia’s All Star collaboration at the Houston Salsa Congress. He has also had the opportunity to take workshops from Eddie Torres, Tito Ortos, Adolfo Indacochea, Franklin Diaz, Juan Matos, Maykel Fonts, Frankie Martinez, and Kati Hernandez, all whom have influenced his unique style.
